Life To The Extreme
It seems like the world is producing more victims every day. Many people seem to have lost the ability to push their way through adversity and cannot see all the good that surrounds them.
My name is Brent Oliver and I live in Milton-Freewater, Oregon. In 1991, when I was 20 years old, I was involved in a life-changing motorcycle accident when I struck a cable at a high rate of speed. This completely crushed my throat, broke my neck, and I died at the scene of the accident. Fortunately, I was found by an off-duty ER nurse who just happened to be driving by on the remote mountain road.
She found me non-responsive. She covered me up and went down the road to get help from the camp she had just passed. At that camp was the local fire chief who happened to be a family friend. CPR was started about 20 mins after the accident, and continued for 2 and a half hours until medics arrived.
This accident has created so many challenges and problems along the way and it has been riddled with tough personal challenges. Throughout this battle I have never considered myself a victim. On the contrary, fighting my battles has taught me so much about what is important in life, and what gives an individual self-worth and the purpose to overcome. There have been so many miracles to keep me here allowing me to tell my story.
One of the major obstacles I had to overcome, was to be able to compete in a workplace against able bodied men and women, earning their respect through hard work, discipline, and a positive attitude. That has afforded me many unique opportunities. A vast majority of my career was spent in the large-scale construction world as a high specification concrete producer. I have had the opportunity to run and manage concrete batch plants on various military and civilian projects scattered across the west coast.
As I am entering a stage in my life that physicians are beginning to discuss timelines, it has become my mission to share my life, my stories and to become a motivating light. By showing people and leading by example. Initially I reached out to a video company to have them shoot a 4-wheel drive challenge video, not having any idea of the opportunity that would unfold.
During our first phone call, the video production company owner said he wanted to meet in person to hear my story. After hearing a portion of my story, in his words, he was blown away. He thought my story would be best told as a documentary or in a movie format. His thought was to create a social media presence that would gain sponsors that would assist in funding the projects.
After he reached out to many colleagues in his industry, he received an overwhelmingly positive response for the story to be told. It is my ultimate goal to gain enough traction with this mission to shift our 501C3 (we are currently formulating this entity) into an ongoing charitable foundation that can touch as many lives as possible.
I am an introvert, so this is completely outside of my comfort zone. Even though this is difficult for me I can’t stop thinking about it because I know others could benefit from it. I keep feeling like this is supposed to be told now. I am no writer and am not good when it comes to talking about myself. You really need to hear the whole story. It’s a one-of-a-kind story full of miracles!!
I really appreciate you taking the time to hear a little bit about myself and my final mission in life. It is going to take support from many people across a variety of industries to help this mission succeed. Whether its media, products, time or monetarily, any support is greatly appreciated.
Our first real push to impact and influence people is going to be through motorsports, off roading in particular is my passion. It has been my entire life. There are so many great people in all motorsports that do great things and touch so many lives.
